NDP condemns homophobic laws in Russia

The NDP condemns the homophobic laws passed in Russia. One law prohibits any public act constituting “homosexual propaganda targeting minors.” A second prevents same-sex couples from adopting children, and a bill proposes public whippings of members of the LGBT community. We believe that these regressive measures will lead to persecution of members of the LGBT community, whose only “crime” is love. The NDP proposes ratcheting up the pressure as the Sochi Olympics approach and forbidding the originators of these laws from visiting Canada.

I support the NDP’s position calling on the Government of Canada to increase the pressure in the lead-up to the Sochi Olympic Games and deny those responsible for Russia’s homophobic laws entry into Canada.
