Stop service cuts at Canada Post

Instead of looking for ways to modernize operations, Canada Post and the Conservatives are taking an axe to long-treasured postal services – killing good jobs, eliminating home delivery, cutting rural post office hours and drastically increasing postage rates. 

6,000 to 8,000 workers will lose their jobs and five million households will lose home delivery over the next five years. Worse yet, no real consultation was done by Canada Post, effectively eliminating any opportunity for input from the people who will be most affected.

By cutting services, it is possible that Canada Post will drive away customers and raise the costs. Canada Post offers a public service that needs to be protected.

  • I so dissagree with this stopping door to door mail service, taking away all of these jobs, Steven Harper you are Taking away jobs from people who need them they have families to support and Bills to pay, I have trouble walking at times and walking in the winter months is even more troublesome. Maybe think about how this is going to affect us the people, Alot of the seniors are unable to go out and walk to get their mail, we have a right to have our say in this matter,I am sure that you will have no trouble getting your mail as I am sure you have people that do that for you, but we have to worry about getting our own.

  • One of the very important and unaddressed important components of home mail delivery is that a post-person knows when there is a problem at a household because of unclaimed mail, unattended to seniors, unattended to domestic or farm animals, etc. That is an invaluable service; our posties provide that invaluable service and have prompted investigation by the proper authorities.
