Stop service cuts at Canada Post

Instead of looking for ways to modernize operations, Canada Post and the Conservatives are taking an axe to long-treasured postal services – killing good jobs, eliminating home delivery, cutting rural post office hours and drastically increasing postage rates.

6,000 to 8,000 workers will lose their jobs and five million households will lose home delivery over the next five years. Worse yet, no real consultation was done by Canada Post, effectively eliminating any opportunity for input from the people who will be most affected.

By cutting services, it is possible that Canada Post will drive away customers and raise the costs. Canada Post offers a public service that needs to be protected.

I oppose the cuts to services recently announced by Canada Post

  • This is unacceptable. Canada Post a long standing company serving Canadians for many years can find cost saving measures to save our services without axing jobs and increasing the unemployment lines. Corporate executives should freeze their wages, turn down their hefty raises and stop their commissions and fix their problems without axing jobs. I as others depend on door to door service as it is hard for me to walk due to a disability. Canada Post keeps raising the costs of stamps, parcel delivery instead of finding a way to fix the problem. I myself find it hard to mail Christmas Cards due to the cost of stamps and that is a shame as I am low income and on disability. Sad as I always sent out cards and what message is this saying. Canada Post blames the internet as their competition. Poor excuse it is greed as the higher up’s scoop up the big bucks. The elderly will not change and buy a computer and learn the internet and the lower incomes including the elderly cannot afford the internet fees. How much does the gov’t have their hand in this as they do with all the factory closing. We pay taxes to have these services and it is so sad Canada Post is crying wolf because the higher up’s are not getting a bigger piece of the pie anymore. Correct the problems internally, invest the millions restructuring Canada Post without axing jobs and taking away home delivery. The only problem with Canada Post is greed and why can they not find more cost effective vehicles like other companies have? Guess it is easier to cry Wolf at the cost to the consumers who have lined their pockets and their employees who been loyal to them through thick and thin. Fix your internal problems and save jobs and keep the best interests of your customers at heart, if you have a heart.
  • Send me updates by regular mail to my door please
  • The conservative government will pay for this and every attack on union members next election, mark my words!
  • Canada Post has a mandate to provide a service to Canadian citizens and they should not be permitted to cut these valuable services.
  • This is outrageous. Another example of conservatives bashing unions.
