Stop service cuts at Canada Post

Instead of looking for ways to modernize operations, Canada Post and the Conservatives are taking an axe to long-treasured postal services – killing good jobs, eliminating home delivery, cutting rural post office hours and drastically increasing postage rates.

6,000 to 8,000 workers will lose their jobs and five million households will lose home delivery over the next five years. Worse yet, no real consultation was done by Canada Post, effectively eliminating any opportunity for input from the people who will be most affected.

By cutting services, it is possible that Canada Post will drive away customers and raise the costs. Canada Post offers a public service that needs to be protected.

I oppose the cuts to services recently announced by Canada Post

  • We actually chose to build our house 20 years ago on our current lot as it was the last one in a walkers route so that we would have postal delivery.
  • This is ridiculous what are you going to take away next!

  • This backward government is destroying the very fabric of our society, our Postal service is a vital part of this country and whether it is seniors, disabled , young families walking with babies in a pram, or just everyday Canadians we deserve to have door to door delivery, and 8 thousand workers deserve to have their jobs. This has got to be stopped now. Jeanie Campbell
  • I truly hope that door to door service stays!!!!! How ridiculous that it’s even being looked at being cut!!!!
  • This is NOT the Canada I recognize … or want! The 2015 election is not far off and the Conservatice governmnet will pay at the polls!
  • Keep door to door we don’t have people that bring us our mail from our mailbox to our desk like yo do
  • Please let us keep our mail delivery. My wife is 76 and I’m 80 years and it would make it very difficult to have to walk to the end our street to pick up the mail. I will vote for the party who will guarantee that we keep our door-to-door mail service and also how will the mail carrier find full time employment. Please let us keep our door-to-door delivery.
  • Canada Post is an essential Canadian service that needs to be protected and not used as a cost cutting measure. The government should work with the postal union to enhance this service and turn it into a profitable service. All it takes is committment and imagination.
  • Postal Workers Define Benefit Pension Plan is under attack as well with Harpers proposal to get Crown Corporations to dump their Pension obligations onto the backs of Postal Workers with the April 24th,2014 announcement of their scheme of a Target Benefit Plan. Harper proposal now is workers to pay for Pension deficits by reducing workers Pension benefits first and if that is not enough then reduce the workers pensions. This after postal workers delivered profits for CPC 16 of 17 years and gave $1.5 BILLION to the government in dividens and taxes during this same period. Postal workers vested rights in pensions for time worked are a deferred wage agreed to as part of our contract promised to us for our efforts in making CPC profits. This change to our pensions is in point #5 of CPC’s 5 point action Plan. Postal Workers both active members and Retirees will not allow Harper and his CPC appointed CEO TO SLASH AND BURN SERVICES OR OUR PENSIONS. We propose to expand services in the postal banking similar to other major postal services are providing around the world.
