Stop service cuts at Canada Post

Instead of looking for ways to modernize operations, Canada Post and the Conservatives are taking an axe to long-treasured postal services – killing good jobs, eliminating home delivery, cutting rural post office hours and drastically increasing postage rates.

6,000 to 8,000 workers will lose their jobs and five million households will lose home delivery over the next five years. Worse yet, no real consultation was done by Canada Post, effectively eliminating any opportunity for input from the people who will be most affected.

By cutting services, it is possible that Canada Post will drive away customers and raise the costs. Canada Post offers a public service that needs to be protected.

I oppose the cuts to services recently announced by Canada Post

  • I am a person that orders a lot of stuff online and enjoy getting Christmas cards….with postal cuts it will be less communication the old fashioned way. Also the elderly still use that form of communication since it’s hard for them to adapt to new technology. Also think of the jobs we are supposed to be creating them not cutting them…if it’s a money issue the government should take a pay cut to make up the deficit since the economy struggles more to make ends meet…if you cut jobs more people will need assistance like welfare to pay for things thus your just paying for them out of taxes…make more jobs not cuts…we will go further into debt.
  • As a small business owner, I believe the cuts will impact my productivity.
  • I think that the people should have a fair say in there postal service . This is all Stephen Harper’s Doing I say get rid of him not the post man.
  • How about reducing deliveries to weekly to ensure we can receive our mail directly while making the government happy through reducing cost?
  • I used to live in a new neighborhood that had the community boxes and I hated it. I moved to an older neighborhood and the first day my mail came to my door was just the best! I am a mother of two small children, one of whom is special needs. Having home delivery is something I don’t want to lose.
  • The change to community mailboxes will mean more break-ins and more identity theft. In fact, this is already happening where the boxes are presently installed. People then have to go through a nightmare and considerable expense to regain their ID with no help from a government that simply doesn’t care.

    Keep door to Door.
  • I think what you plan to do is disgusting. I suffer from chronic pain and my children do not live cose to me. It would be very difficult for me to walk somewhere to get my mail and I know quite a few others who either have disabilities or are seniors who would think this a hardship. Do you ereally care about the Canadian people at all because it seems to me you guys just do whatever you want whether the people want it or don’t want it. Shame on you. As usual, the bottom line is as always, MONEY.
